PRESS RELEASE: AEGIS Europe cautiously welcomes new EU anti-dumping rules

Brussels, 16 November 2017The European Parliament has passed anti-dumping rules, which herald a new era for European trade defence against destructive dumping. Ines Van Lierde, Chair of AEGIS Europe, an alliance representing the interests of EU manufacturers cautiously welcomed the Regulation saying: “It is critical that this new regime bolsters anti dumping complaints brought by EU companies to the European Commission, countering obvious overcapacities and market distortions”.

“The European Parliament strengthened the Commission’s proposal in regards to, for instance, legitimately defending against foreign governments artificially subsidising cheap energy, easy credit, and other factors of production, for exporters who want to flood Europe with dumped goods. But, to be truly effective EU industry depends on the Commission to vigorously apply and enforce the new rules, ensuring that we have a reliable and robust trade defence system in place,” stated Ms Van Lierde.
